Message of Dr. Ramesh C Gaur as University Librarian, Jawaharlal Nehru University
Wishing you a very happy, prosperous, healthy and successful New Year 2018.
As University Librarian, Jawaharlal Nehru University, this is my last message to you as today I am leaving JNU to join back as Director(Library and Information) in HAG scale at Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts(Ministry of Culture, New Delhi).
At the outset, I must express my sincere thanks to you for kind support and love and affection bestowed upon me during the last six years of my stay at JNU. In 27 years of my professional career I consider my stay at JNU as most successful, fruitful and enjoyable. During the last six years I received a number of national and international honour and awards. But the most prestigious and best award was your love and affection and the respect given to me by you. I really enjoyed working with you all. It indeed is a matter of great pride in serving some of the best and igniting minds at one of the most reputed Universities. I always enjoyed interacting with you.
In last six years with support of all faculty, staff and students I am able to develop world class library and information services at JNU. Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Central Library, JNU, is having honour of first University Library in India in initiating a number of technological initiatives such as, remote access, discovery services, digitization and online access of electronic theses and dissertations, digitization and online access of news clippings, plagiarism awareness and preventive measure, organisation of other workshops, book discussion, book launch, seminars, conferences, lectures etc. Besides, online catalogue of Central Library as well as Schools/Centres libraries to make it fully computerised, filling up of 35 vacant posts in the library, renovation of library, reorganisation of collections. The sitting capacity of library was enhanced almost double of its earlier capacity. All reading halls were renovated and new furniture with facilities of laptop charging points were done. Round-the-clock opening of library reading halls by engaging contract staff in the night shifts, engagement of dedicated persons for digitations of Visually Impaired students, library trainees for each and every School/Centre's libraries and appointment of computer trained staff in the library are some of the initiatives to provide the better library services. Central Library, JNU, was not having fire clearances. The fire-fighting system has been installed. The library staffs were motivated for prompt and efficient delivery of library and information services. Trainings were provided to students and faculty and uses of library resources, references management and anti-plagiarism tools. More than Rs.1.5 crore as sponsorship was collected for different library programmes and activities.
I am going with a sense of pride and achievement that in last six years not a single complaint or word of criticism of my work was received from any faculty or students. The kind of words of words of appreciation and encouragement received from all of you will always be cherished in my memories for ever.
Above all it is not possible without the support and encouragement from you. So, I take this opportunity to extent my sincere thanks to you for all support, encouragement, love and affection to me during my stay at JNU. I request you to continue to support library staff.
