Government Collection

Large quantities of documents and information, which serve as valuable and indispensible resources for various academic researchers in social sciences, sciences and technology, are generated by governments, intergovernmental organizations and public non-governmental organizations. In order to promote collection, organization, preservation, discovery and dissemination of government publications from varied national and international agencies, the Central Library houses a separate collection namely ‘Government Publication Section’.

This section is located at 9th Floor of the Central Library. At present, this section comprises more than 31,000 documents published by various national and international government agencies. All the documents of this collection are catalogued and barcoded.

The collection of Government Publication Section is distinctive as it collects and disseminates a variety of sub-collections. The selection includes following types of documents but is not limited to.

Documents published by Census of India Organisation

The Indian Census is the largest single source of a variety of statistical information on different characteristics of the people of India. To scholars and researchers in demography, economics, anthropology, sociology, statistics and many other disciplines, the Indian Census has been a fascinating source of data; therefore, census documents have been specially collected and organized separately in this section. This section has various census documents from Census 2011, 2001, 1991, 1981, 1971 and even older. Some of the different types of census documents it has are Primary Census Abstract; General Population Tables; Socio-Cultural Tables - Age , Marital Status, Education, Enrolment, Language, Religion; Economic Tables; Disability; Fertility Tables; Migration Tables; Housing Tables, etc.

Gazetteers

This special collection has more than 350 national, state and district level gazetteers. Besides, recent editions of various gazetteers, some of the Imperial Gazetteer of India – Provincial Series (Madras, Punjab, Bengal, Rajputana, Andaman and Nicobar Island, etc.) are also available.

The documents available in this section are treated as reference material and therefore, it can’t be issued out to library users. However, if needed, photocopy facility is provided to users within the library premises.
