Keeping it Glocal Best Practices for International Outreach in an Academic Library

About Topic : Using the International and Area Studies Library at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a model, this talk will explore the why's and how's of library outreach. The talk will be divided into two sections. In the first section, we will consider what constitutes outreach, how it has developed over time and why it important. In the second section, I will draw on my experiences as a public services librarian to offer practical advice about how to create an effective strategy for reaching out to international scholars and students with international ambitions.
About Speaker : Mara Thacker is the South Asian Studies Librarian at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is passionate about public services and is chair of the International and Area Studies Library Outreach Committee. She received her MSLS from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2010 and worked as a Public Services Librarian at Paul Smith's College from 2010-2012.
